Caramelitas are delicious bars featuring layers of chewy oats, rich chocolate, and creamy salted caramel, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large bowl until smooth and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually mix this dry ingredient mixture into the butter-sugar mixture until just combined.
  4. Press half of the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan, creating an even layer.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the pressed oat layer, then drizzle the salted caramel sauce generously over the chocolate chips.
  6. Crumble the remaining oatmeal mixture over the top, covering the caramel and chocolate layer.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bars are golden brown and set in the center.
  8. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars and serving.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature butter and do not overbake the bars to maintain their chewy texture.
