Ingredients
4 large croissants (preferably 1 day old), cut into chunks
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup chocolate chunks or chocolate drops (optional topping)
3 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup heavy cream
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
Arrange croissant chunks evenly in dish. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
Pour custard over croissants, pressing down lightly. Let sit 10–15 minutes.
Bake 35–40 minutes until golden and set in the center.
Sprinkle chocolate chunks on top in the last 5 minutes to melt.
Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
Use slightly stale croissants for best texture. Let custard soak before baking. Serve warm for gooey chocolate flavor.
