A comforting and creamy side dish featuring layers of thinly sliced potatoes and melted cheese.

  • Total Time: 75 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  3. In a bowl, mix the cream, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Pour half of this mixture over the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Dot with butter on top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for another 30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Add more cheese or cream for extra creaminess. Baking with foil helps cook evenly.
